New Interview and HQ Portrait of Emma

Those eyes. That voice. That bruise.
Bruise?
"Yeah, I gave myself a black eye last night," Emma Stone says with a laugh. "During the 'Mein Herr' number, I whipped off my leather jacket and hit myself with the belt buckle. Nice, huh?"
Nice indeed. At 26, the husky-voiced actor is thriving in a way that the two wounded women who've brought her to a career peak are not: the gin-soaked and divinely decadent Sally Bowles of the Broadway revival of "Cabaret" and Sam, the tightly wound, embittered daughter in Alejandro G. Iñárritu's film "Birdman." The latter role has surrounded Stone with Oscar buzz after her recent Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations.
Sitting in a noisy Midtown Manhattan diner, Stone points to a swelling near her left eye that in no way detracts from the saucer-eyed beauty of the would-be wanton of "Easy A" and girlfriend Gwen Stacy in the "Spider-Man" franchise.

“Listening to Natasha Richardson, I realized you could be an actor in a musical and not have the perfect voice I’d heard on cast recordings,” Ms. Stone recalled of the production’s star.
“I don’t have this gorgeous untouchable voice, and it was Natasha who really lit a fuse under me to try musicals and play Sally someday,” she added of Richardson’s Tony Award-winning performance as the sensitive and increasingly desperate singer Sally Bowles.

New Interview of Emma with USA Today
When her mother passed her five-year mark of being in remission for triple-negative breast cancer, Stone and her brother Spencer and their mom celebrated not with a fancy dinner or a swanky vacation, but by getting matching tattoos.
It's why Stone, 25, has been volunteering at Gilda's Club, which doles out group love to cancer patients, for three years. And it's also why she's a bit uncomfortable doing the promotional version of a drive-through at the organization's downtown headquarters.
"It makes me so happy but I want to be there more in person there with them. I'm a little bummed I'm not spending more time with them today. It always feels a little bit like, 'Gilda's Club, bye!'' she says.
And unlike so many other actors, who ooze faux candor and neediness like bad deodorant, you get the sense that she means it. It's perhaps why Stone epitomizes unforced sincerity and breezy confidence on the big screen as well, today as Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. So how to reconcile that persona with the bundle of nerves that Stone says she really is on the inside?
